Please suggest Big Island of Hawaii oceanfront rental building?

04.30.10

I have a job with oceanography coming up in February for 6 months. Location in the Kailua Kona Hawaii area and I’d like to rent a place on the ocean to fish and surf when not working.
I’m bringing my 14 year old son and our dog.
I need a house and not an apartment building.
I contacted rental agents already but so far have yet to find a place that we need.
Do you have any suggestions ?

    this waterfront property is where we stayed while on the big island and we try to return every other year.
    nice and quiet ‘cept for the sound of the surf and it’s located at the main surfing location.

    concerning travel with dog to hawaii use to be very long quarantine but today it’s much more simple;
    Hawaii’s Animal Quarantine Laws

    Hawaii is a rabies free state. Hawaii’s quarantine law is designed to protect residents and pets from potentially serious health problems associated with the introduction and spread of rabies. All dogs and cats regardless of age (puppies and kittens included) or purpose, must comply with Hawaii´┐Żs dog and cat import requirements.

    Chapter 4-29 Hawaii Administrative Rules, governs the importation of dogs, cats and other carnivores into Hawaii. This law states that dogs and cats meeting specific pre and post arrival requirements may qualify for 5-days or-less quarantine or direct release at Honolulu International Airport after inspection. Furthermore, the law requires dogs and cats not meeting all of the specific 5-Day-Or-Less program requirements to be quarantined for up to 120 days upon arrival In Hawaii.

    Have you looked into Hawaii’s restrictions on bringing dogs into the islands? You may want to look into the attached link to see if you can qualify for the expedited process of bringing a pet into the islands.

    House on the water? Good luck at finding one at an affordable price. I would try to find a place I liked, felt comfortable in and could afford and then plan on driving to the shore to fish or surf.

    Waterfront property in Hawaii for rental buildings is very high cause of the extremely high property taxes and insurance costs of the owner. We owned property and rented the building because we couldn’t afford to live in it on our wages we were earning at that time.
    Since your staying for a short time I suggest you find a place that allows pets as your number one source because most owners who are renting wont want pets on premises.
    It will be easier for you to find a place without bringing your dog is my advise, let it board with family or friends during your stay in the islands.
